Camping There are 59 "first come - first served" Forest Service campgrounds, 7 group campgrounds that require advance reservations, 36 picnic areas, 8 resorts and 24 organizational camps. The Crystal Lake private-operated Campground can be reserved in advance.
Campgrounds are usually available except during summer holiday weekends, when they fill up quickly. For example, Chilao usually fills up by mid-morning of the first day of the holiday.

Geocaching Geocaching (Caches near Mt. Baldy, Altadena, or Lancaster)
Hiking Hikes in the San Gabriel Mountains is T. Chester's main hiking page that gives extensive information about hiking in the SGM and attempts to index all the SGM hikes on the web. That site contains a list of all websites that give information on specific trails. Hence the list below contains only sites with extensive hiking information or sites that also have additional hiking information beyond specific hikes. See also Bicycling, Mountain Bicycling and Running sites, since they also contain trail information.
Family, Group and Special-Interest Hikes contains links to organized hikes.
Sites are listed in order of information content.
- Hundred Peaks Section-Sierra Club. As of Feb99, contains word docs of how to get to nearly all the peaks of the ANF, as well as the Topo! USGS maps for each of the hikes, both great resources for hikers. The word docs are small, typically 20 kB, but the topo maps are huge, typically 3 MB. In early 2000, access to those maps was restricted to HPS Members and Newsletter subscribers.
