This section covers rougly mile 110 to mile 112 from the Mexican Border (see notes on accuracy of mileages).
Topo! gives 1.8 miles for this segment, the same as given in the PCT Data Book. The one-way hike from south to north has a total elevation gain of 60 feet; see the profile below. The one-way hike from north to south has a total elevation gain of 150 feet. A round-trip hike of this section is 3.6 miles, with an elevation gain and loss of 210 feet. | |||||

This is a pleasant short hike as you continue along the grasslands in this geologic basin filled with alluvium. As you enter some bedrock, the plant diversity increases and the grasslands change into a oak woodland. The oaks provide welcoming shade as you then continue through them following a wide dry streambed.
