General Information Jackson Flat sits atop the northwestern end of the Blue Ridge at +7,400' in elevation. It overlooks Pinyon Ridge and the San Andreas Rift Zone to the northwest, the buttes and dry lakes of the Mojave Desert to the north, the Punchbowl Fault along the south side of the Blue Ridge, and the high peaks and the deep canyons of the East Fork of the San Gabriel River to the south.
Jackson Flat has a walk-in group campground available by reservation only. There are flush toilets and drinking water.

See also: USGS 7.5' x 7.5' Map: Mescal Creek (34° 22' 52" N, 117° 44' 01" W)By Car: Nearest parking is at Grassy Hollow, one mile away, unless you reserve the group campground and thereby get the combination to open the locked gate on the Blue Ridge Fire Road at Grassy Hollow. Grassy Hollow is about 2 miles west of Big Pines on SR2, the Angeles Crest Highway, and about 95 minutes from the Los Angeles area via I-15 and SR-138 through Cajon Pass. As an alternative, you can come from the Big Pines Highway, County Road N-4, from the north and turn right on SR2 at Big Pines.
By Trail: West from the Pacific Crest Trail from Vincent Gap and east from Grassy Hollow. Northeast from a trail from Jackson Lake. West or east from the Blue Ridge Fire Road.
Season: Snow closure in winter.
