Flora of Moonlight Canyon / Canyon 41, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
Introduction For a description of a loop hike involving both of these canyons, with pictures of the scenery and many of the plant species in flower, see Carla Hoegen and Fred Melgert's page Moonlight Canyon - Inner Pastures Loop.
Checklist for Canyon 41 Area See:
- Notes on the Scientific Names Used At This Site and
- Information about the links from the Scientific Name and Common Name.
An asterisk before the common name indicates a non-native species.
The column labeled #Pls gives a minimum estimate of the number of plants from the field surveys, up to a maximum of 99 plants, for each canyon. The main intent of this estimate is to indicate the species for which we found very few plants.
A V in this column indicates a species we did not see, but which was vouchered here. A P in this column indicates a species planted in the Agua Caliente County Campground. A KM or FC in this column indicates a species found by Keir Morse, or Fred Melgert and Carla Hoegen, for which no abundance estimate was made.
The column headers are:
- #Pl: The # of plants observed, up to a maximum of 99, in the following field surveys:
- MC: The Agua Caliente Moonlight Canyon Loop, including an extension to the Airstrip, and upper Moonlight Canyon to the Inner Pasture boundary.
- 41: Canyon heading west from S2 near Mile Marker 41, about halfway between Agua Caliente and Canebrake Canyons.
- IP: Inner Pasture
