Flora of Boulder Alley / Lower Willows Loop Area, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
Introduction A popular hike in ABDSP is to start at Third Crossing, and do a loop trip up Boulder Alley (the Coyote Creek bypass route); the west end of Santa Catarina Spring; and then down Coyote Creek from just above Lower Willows back to Third Crossing. The Loop can just as well be done in the reverse order. This checklist covers that route, along with additional area in the flattish area south of the bypass Jeep Road south of Santa Catarina Spring.
This checklist has been made from 16 field surveys done by the authors from 2009 to 2018, from vouchers, and from iNaturalist observations. Six of our field surveys were dedicated to this loop. The other surveys were for places to the west, but we traveled part of this loop to get there.
Checklist for Boulder Alley / Lower Willows Loop Area See:
- Notes on the Scientific Names Used At This Site and
- Information about the links from the Scientific Name and Common Name.
An asterisk before the common name indicates a non-native species.
The other column headers are:
- Fam: the first three letters of the plant family name.
- #V: the number of vouchers for this area, with a maximum value of 9, from a Consortium search on 23 February 2018.
- The column #Pl gives the number of plants observed in this area if we observed a given species. If this column contains FC, it was an additional species observed by Fred Melgert and Carla Hoegen. If this column contains iNat, there was an iNaturalist observation in this area of species not found in vouchers or the field surveys.
