Flora of Area East of Cuyamaca Lake, Laguna Mountains, San Diego County
Introduction This checklist was made from vouchers, plant surveys done by Carla Hoegen and Fred Melgert on 22 April 2017, 13 November 2017, and 24 April 2018, and one plant survey done by Tom Chester on 3 May 2018.
The area is for the loop hike described in Fred and Carla's California Riding and Hiking Trail - Soapstone Grade - Upper Green Valley - La Cima trail. See their webpage for a map of the hike, and many photographs of the species in the area of that loop. See also their plant list, which may have updates more recent than the list on this page.
The Consortium of California Herbaria was searched on 2 May 2018 for georeferenced vouchers in a somewhat-larger area containing that loop, from 32.96 to 33.00° N. latitude and -116.56 to -116.53° E. longitude. That search resulted in 437 vouchers. The voucher determination of Gutierrezia californica was rejected; see Plants of Southern California: Gutierrezia californica and G. sarothrae. The remaining vouchers were of 232 taxa.
Fred and Carla observed 134 species with determinations to the species, which included 50 species not on the voucher list.
The survey by Tom yielded an additional 16 species not on the voucher list or on Fred and Carla's list.
The total checklist contains 298 taxa.
See also Ranunculus californicus and R. occidentalis in the Cuyamaca Lake Area, and Tom's photographs of Plagiobothrys scriptus. Both R. occidentalis and Plagiobothrys scriptus are disjuncts here.
Checklist See:
- Notes on the Scientific Names Used At This Site and
- Information about the order in which the species are presented, and the links from the Scientific Name and Common Name.
An asterisk before the common name indicates a non-native species.
The family name is abbreviated to the first three characters in order to save space in the table rows.
The column #V gives the number of vouchers for this area.
The column #Pls gives the minimum number of plants observed by Tom, up to a maximum of 99 plants. An FC in this column indicates a taxon observed by Fred and Carla with no estimate of plant abundance. Some species have a qualifier of ~ that indicates the determination is likely, but not certain, or a question mark indicating the determination is just a best guess.
Version for printing, without lines and other text on this page: html (8 pages) or pdf Clickbook booklet (2 double-sided pages). (See printing instructions for an explanation of these options)
