Pictures From Ernie Maxwell Scenic Trail, San Jacinto Mountains, 22 May 2009

These are some of the pictures I took on a trip on the Ernie Maxwell Trail on 22 May 2009, showing some of the plants in bloom that day. Since I was primarily botanizing the trail and working on species determinations for some species, I did not photograph all of the plants in bloom. For a list of what plants were in bloom or bud that day, see Plant Checklist For Ernie Maxwell Scenic Trail.

The name of the plant is always given first, with the pictures below.

mountain whitethorn, Ceanothus cordulatus, with Lily Rock in background

snow-plant, Sarcodes sanguinea

thimbleberry, Rubus parviflorus
white-margined oxytheca, Oxytheca emarginata

Compare these fruit to the fruit of A. holboellii in the next picture, which has only one row of seeds in each fruit, indicated by the bulges extending across the entire fruit width. See Arabis = Boechera species with non-erect fruit for how to distinguish our species, along with pictures of each species.
