Flora of Palm Wash Area
Introduction This is a checklist for the Palm Wash area from about two miles west of the San Diego / Imperial County border to about one mile east of the border. The area is broken into two sections:
- The west section is at and west of the intersection of the Calcite Mine Road with the south fork of Palm Wash, and includes the upper parts of the middle fork of Palm Wash and the Calcite Mine area. Vouchers from S22 in this area are also included. This area is entirely in San Diego County.
- The east section is east of that intersection in the south fork of Palm Wash. This section includes the Freeman Property, which was extensively vouchered by Jon Rebman and coworkers. This section extends from 0.8 miles west of the Imperial County line, to about one mile east of that line.
Fig. 1 shows the two sections of the flora, along with areas surveyed and most of the voucher locations. Some of the voucher locations are to the north of this map, in Big Wash and Grave Wash.
Fig. 1. Map of the Palm Wash Area, showing the dividing line between the West and East Floras; locations surveyed in the West Flora (green routes); locations surveyed in the East Flora (red route); and voucher locations (blue diamonds). The Calcite Mine area is circled at upper left. Click on the map for a larger map without labels.

See:
- Notes on the Scientific Names Used At This Site and
- Information about the order in which the species are presented, and the links from the Scientific Name and Common Name.
An asterisk before the common name indicates a non-native species.
The minimum number of observed plants in each of the floral areas is given in the last two columns. The column with header E is for the East Flora; the column with header W is for the West Flora. Note that the West Flora is given in the right-most column, which makes those numbers more prominent since we typically work on that flora more than we do the East Flora.
In both columns, an x indicates we have observed that taxon but no abundance estimate was made; and a V indicates a vouchered species we haven't seen.
Version for printing, without lines and other text on this page, with West column on right: html (4 pages) or pdf Clickbook booklet (1 double-sided page). (See printing instructions for an explanation of these options)
Version for printing with the East column on right: html (4 pages) or pdf Clickbook booklet (1 double-sided page).
In the checklist below, the column with header NPM gives the # of plants observed in a one mile survey from the North fork of Palm wash to the east end of the Mesa between Palm Wash and Grave Wash.
