Bonsall Farms Produce Stand

A produce stand operated by the Kawana family has been at the southeast corner of Green Canyon Road and Reche Road for 14 years, from 1984 to 1998. The stand sells produce from Bonsall Farms that is grown immediately behind the stand and other locations. Bonsall Farms is a Vista business owned by David Kowano which has two other North County outlets.

For 10 years it looked like this stand's days were numbered, since there has been a big "for sale" sign with lot assignments for their growing fields, but the stand continued to operate. However, houses are finally being built on that site, beginning in August 1998, and so the stand will be moving to, they hope, another Fallbrook location.

The Reche stand has the big "fresh white corn" sign, and sells numerous items including potted herbs, sunflowers, melons, lettuce, squash, corn, cucumbers, onions, green beans, grapefruit, and strawberries.

Kaz Kowano works daily at the stand, and is joined in the summer by family member Jennifer Oliver and her children, who live in Washington the rest of the year. She says that "the customers have seen my kids grow up".
